The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 哇那座叫做那不勒斯的城市也太美了，那片海，那条长长的海岸线，那些看起来古老的建筑，还有那些在大海中的那些人。故事是那种波澜不惊的娓娓道来的感觉，没有很强的故事性，没有要告诉你一个什么故事。那种感觉是你被带进去了，你好像也置身在那个城市里，那些生活场景，那么多人，那些我听不懂的对话，那些人奇怪的行为，对我来说都是陌生的，可是又有很有趣，有点像是置身其中的旁观者，又像是已经跟这群人生活好久的感觉。啊啊啊我应该多看这些欧洲电影，感觉真的好不一样啊，而且还能长点见识。今天我知道了意大利一座美丽的城市那不勒斯，然后我去百度了一下，又说这种城市很危险而且有点脏乱差，然后看到各种以前的旅游文，然后就超想出去外面的世界走走转转，想要在那不勒斯的街道上乱逛，想要像电影里面的人一样一言不合就跳进大海里…
我想拍電影，逃避現實，因為現實很糟糕。我想去羅馬，看自己適不適合拍電影，你卻說這個城市還有很多故事，我們最終會失敗，陷入泥潭裡。大量的廣角鏡頭，對稱的構圖，述說著憂鬱男孩的生活、夢想、家庭，上帝之手究竟能否拉我們一把，無從得知。

有几幕虚实难辨的瞬间还蛮像费里尼的。但这类太过私人的讲述，我都很难relate。不要再说什么越私人就越普世，私人也没什么不好。只能说我很乐意旁观这意大利的夏天、海边、忧伤。
自传体就真诚多了，细碎迷人，充满种种惹人发笑的温暖趣味；生活的本质就是打岔，“电影没什么用，但能让从糟糕的生活里转移注意力”，以帮助你回去过生活，隐喻和种种手法，本质是你想说什么；那不勒斯可真美啊，只记取温暖自己人生的部分，是难能可贵的视角，只是这种生活浮在空中，哀伤和快乐，都离政治社会相距甚远，如同加了一层滤镜。
宏大的大數據世界也有失效的時候，我們難以單憑社交平台結交朋友，放下手中的電子產品，重新發掘世界的美好。
一开始所有小朋友都领着Bubble Bot来上学的场景挺震撼我的，恍惚间看到了低头看手机在逛街的人们...故事后半段就很老套了哈哈，但故事的设定很有启发性。生活在电子信息时代，人与人之间交往的定义似乎也变了呢...这时候，主角稍显笨拙的真诚就显得弥足珍贵～
设想它会是入坑爱豆后要订阅的bubble（这里“撞名”意外提供太多脑补空间）- -你渴望收到从不停更、准时推送的自拍、短视频以及各种颜文字表情包的职业营业三件套，还是虽不多、但却每每恰到好处的真情流露。身处一个技术世代，许多动画都开始将视角对准被算法、技术以及“Big Tech”劫持并且渐渐消失的“真心”；它们构思一个几乎能与现实生活对照的故事世界，也最终归纳出实际的矛盾- -我们的交流比任何时候都更简单方便，却也比任何时候都渴望其中的珍贵。Barney和Ron的历程与故事触碰于此，并有些许发散；尽管更多是粗浅美好的幻想，但还是让故事本身变得珍贵。
▫️50分吧…看的过程感动一点点，烦躁很多多…随意下个饭凑合了。处处都有东拼西凑的影子，学生人均一个电子宠物来彰显身份这种设定真是人间噩梦，而且整个学校只有1人没钱买电子鸡是不是也太夸张了一点？

又吵又闹，最后peace & love，一切问题都迎刃而解。还不如The Mitchells vs. The Machines，这种题材真实倦了，Olivia Colman还两部都演了。全世界都是7年级学生吗，最后还不是依然每个人都沉迷在机器里。那个掉钱眼里的老头大概是库克（和其他科技大佬的缝合怪）？
间或想起皮佩尔诺。某些层面上它是一部五星作品。恰当，群像，冷峻。但又有种止步于此，可惜。
非常私人化的文本，影像呈现依然绝美。可以说是纯粹基于Pratical Light摄影的教科书。后半段每次在摄影调度上的稍作炫技，实际都是剧作重音。但是就跟剧情所在时空一样，我这生存在21世纪初大都市的现代人，现在对这样的小城生活太有距离感了……
被前奏的无厘头劝退过两次，庆幸第三次看下去了，反差、冲突、越来越悲伤、越来越深刻……仿佛艺术就要在痛苦中才能诞生……只想要快乐就注定浅薄是吗？ 其实他要庆幸，那么大了父母才离去，他才感到不快乐～ 而我们虽然爸妈一直在，但可能，很小很小就如同孤儿，就失去快乐了吧～～

我不认为这是给普通人看的电影…不熟悉南欧文化、也不是电影人，找不到共情。不知道大师要表达啥。
