The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 有点掉书袋和刻意了。最喜欢是鸡蛋故事的首尾呼应以及电影中的光影。
人性的丑惡在政治上表露無遺，東方的紙牌屋，演技也爆燈，正經的電影。
没动作戏，但却刀光剑影，扣人心弦。无论是题材，还是叙事逻辑，都要上乘！
第3445-电影主题很明显，韩国民选要玩花样才行，薛景求说李善均还没准备好，结尾来看，是他自己当时没准备好，现实很骨感，要遵守游戏规则。
本片所探讨的矛盾令人深思，我们暂且忽略韩国是否有真正代表人民的民主斗士，单就正直的人是否必须用正直的手段战胜对手这个问题，就很值得讨论，其实就这样的问题可以创作很多作品，观众也一定会分为两派，这用来拍更为贴近生活的商业片可能收效会更好。
胜利即正义，手段和目标，历史改编，演技全部在线。但是总有一种黏稠的感觉，作为商业片一般吧。
野心，手段，政坛路上步步为营，越光亮的地方影子越鲜明，形影永远是无法分离的。
好惋惜，都是为了大义，有的人是面子，有的人是里子。面子和里子的决裂，感觉不是道义的不同，追根到底还是不信任，真心觉得金总统是伪君子。
朴二世总裁下台以后，批判朴一世的片可真是雨后春笋呵呵。
既要能让有良知的人上位，也要允许台面下的阴影存在。但无法反过来，阴影就是见光死，然而阴影未必无良知。
韩国的政治片真是独具一格，非常有味道。扣掉一星是因为片中金大中的理念太理想化了，最后当选的结局似乎有那么一点迎合政治正确的味道，相比之下我还是更喜欢南山的部长们。本身这个影子是举正义大旗者抽离出的阴暗面的故事足够拿五星的。
字幕有点崩，断断续续看了几次才继续下去，进入到党内竞争那段开始渐入佳境，竞选的阴暗诡计一波接一波。开头和结尾关于偷鸡蛋的隐喻，一下子就把候选人和影子的性格特征诠释的清清楚楚，很有意思。
算是首尾呼应吧，偷鸡蛋的故事太有意思。有些差评也是挺可爱，不感兴趣所以看了打低分这是什么逻辑，我不感兴趣的题材我都不会看。zz远比书本上有趣的多
导演好像把所有的能量都用在中场楼梯的“密室政治”戏中，那段的走位铺排，美术置景，寓意内涵，人物关系剑拔弩张，相当精彩，但十分可惜的是，后半段流于形式般的结束，又回到了国际市场那样年代片的套路，而且选举政治的展示是否过于“脸谱化”
其实，他们本来心里想的就是一码事，只不过有人要说出来，有人要做出来。
前一小时我没看懂，后一小时从“光线越强阴影就越暗”开始到结尾都非常精彩。结尾鸡蛋的隐喻看完解读恍然大悟，太有意思了。
就得试验、碰撞，才能找到更好的政治。定于一尊少了混乱但缺点同样也是明显的。

相信看过导演不汗党的，看这部多少会和我一样失望，镜头语言退步实在严重。也别提南山的部长，韩国政治惊悚类型片多了去，不用强行并列。这部前半段选举的梗其实更像拉拉因的《智利说不》。整部片亮点都落在薛演技（但看过薛前作就知道对他其实没什么挑战）和肖的人设（可惜选角，如果让郑雨盛或者更极端些崔岷植吴达洙来演会更好）。不功不过，平庸之作。导演后生可畏，值得期待。
