The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 其实每个人可能都会和男主人公一样在人生逆境的某些时刻陷入黑暗暴力，因为感情因为家庭因为童年阴影等等错综复杂的因素，虐杀小动物，（借执法者身份）开枪击毙看不顺眼的少年……等等，最终男主在一次电话营救过程中找寻到了自己，选择不再逃避，面对自己的错并承受代价。不得不说吉伦哈尔演技真好，把一个独角戏演的有声有色，有人说是奈飞翻拍原版更好，我先不做评价因为没看过原版。但最后马桶旁给搭档电话那段儿真的非常真实入戏。把人物内心的斗争演绎得淋漓尽致。是的选择直面自己承担前途尽毁的人生，哪儿那么从容？
Gyllenhaal自带暴躁警察气质，确实不错
其实最后的质量也算尚可，做了些本土化的改动 杰伦哈尔也算比较努力的演了演 虽然不咋地。对比原作少了原创的光环，只能说是非常平庸的作品，关键这片花了这么久才出来，明明成本超级超级低，你说网飞股价能不低么。

看到一半突然觉得好像以前看过一部很像的电影。
独角戏电影，演得还是可以的，就是剧情偏弱点。
杰克吉伦哈尔的演技可圈可点 但是剧本台词比起其他单人独幕剧来说太太太单薄了 紧急惊悚啥的完全看不到吧 困死我了
Jake基本撑住了这部独角戏 虽然有些时候会觉得情绪稍微过了点
不如原版啊，没能做出有效的改编设置。奇怪的是节奏也从中间开始往下掉，无法做到吸引观众，这种类型片就废了。这种改编也实在意义不大。杰克倒是兢兢业业但也被忽视太久。
美国版最大的不同在于结局，改动很大。丹麦版的结局是男主完成了自我心灵救赎，如释重负地走出了接线室，观众能够猜得到男主将会如何面对次日的审判，结局回味悠长，意味深长。而美国版则短平快（这是美国版翻拍电影的通病），更为直白，不给观众以自我遐想的空间
表演很好，但是故事细节禁不起推敲，最后主题揭露得也不够深刻。

84/100。在原版的基础上进行了融入美国文化语境的合适嫁接，将这个国家中最见不得光那些黑暗角落有效地插进原本充满悬念性与代入感的故事，将人内心深处积满灰尘的良知放到了光亮下，无情又有情地用罪人的警铃敲响了它尚存的希望。杰克·吉伦哈尔的表演更是为整部电影锦上添花。
最近这两年怎么都要拍独角戏？始终没有哪部比当年的狙击电话亭更惊艳。
故事的概念和转折不算多么新颖但都很不错。迫于压力坦白那段非常精彩，但是前面多少有点枯燥。Jake 表现不算封神但也非常非常好了，高潮到最后都能完成让观众共情的基本任务。改天看看原版
作为改编作品还是平庸，但老吉单人戏表现不错，真实感也营造得可以。不过这个人设…感觉做接线员是不是有点太情绪化了
老吉一人撑起了一部戏，但是故事其实有点无聊，broken people save broken people？赎罪么？
