The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 还能在新鲜一点吗？不就是拐着弯的说某国的文化是落后的，劝年轻人“投诚”这点烂戏码吗？
一个关于叛逆期的简单故事能讲得这么有趣，还得是皮克斯啊！失控的红对撞秩序的绿，把虽然刻板但却又贴切的东方情感拿捏得这么到位，一定会让每一个“想要得到长辈认可”的孩子感同身受，一定会让每一个“狗十三”一样的孩子从另一个角度认识自己，选择一条和长辈不太一样的道路。最值得称道的是在技术上已经做到极致的皮克斯，这次用快节奏加颜艺的方式给了我们一个不太传统的动画风格，把每个人都拉进到那片星星眼的大海之中。（中间那段连环画风格短片也太赞了！）
如果13岁的我能看到这部电影，也许会暴风哭泣吧？成长的不安和压抑、庞大到让人无处可逃的原生家庭、必须奉命扼杀的爱的萌芽、剥离母体的疼痛、在身体的变化面前手足无措、为了满足所有人不惜牺牲最闪亮的自己……那个渺小卑怯的我、那片一旦逃离就不愿回望的黑暗世界、那段被封印在身体里的蜕变之旅，将在日后时时点醒我：红色小熊猫没什么可怕的，关键是，你终于接纳了你自己。

用熊猫代表本我的动物性，选华裔代表被压抑个性的群体，符号择取上有心思。红色、熊猫、竹林、旗袍、道场、祠堂、chinatown，中国元素使用得十分讨巧。最后一次仪式时粤语唱经声中渐入b-box，再叠加4-town的出场，可称神来之笔；同样让人拍手称赞的还有用首饰进行封印的构思。Pixar的创作人员应该都放飞了自己的red panda，才能每次都献出这么brilliant的创意；而中国的内容创作之所以如此疲软乏味，可能也是因为同样的原因——人不有趣，作品也难以有趣。
这也太可爱太好笑了，笑到肚子疼……一开始觉得是来姨妈的隐喻，后来又觉得是PMS，后来才发现是在说所有东亚女性被压抑的一切对自由的渴望和需求吧（包括性压抑），不能释放情绪，凡事循规蹈矩，做一个克制温柔的贤妻良母，但其实包括外婆和七大姑八大姨在内，每一个女性内心都有不甘，而在必要时刻还是会释放出女性的力量。想象力惊人啊，好看！
片名turning red的双重含义注定这故事关乎长大成人的阵痛。严格的家庭管束、孝悌文化下的殷切期盼、压抑的个性和自我、叛逆期的挣扎反抗，令本东亚女孩狠狠共情。我们心中住着一头怪兽，即便努力压制着负面本性，难免脱缰爆发，千改变万克制，还是希望家人能包容不那么完美的自己，只有爱才能中和兽性戾气。美美和红熊猫的表情都太生动了，表情包预订。
东亚母女关系可以拍，但是感觉没拍好，还是停留在东方奇观想象式表达上。小熊猫崇拜这个，除了贩卖可爱，设定就真的很离谱，你说人家功夫熊猫至少还知道基于大熊猫生存环境做设定。这个广东人信小熊猫教，我有点疑惑，历史上小熊猫有在华南的生存分布吗？
有没有想念过那个13岁以前的自己？有没有为你成年后一路丢盔弃甲而遗憾？你是不是已经是那个放弃愤怒沉默是金明哲保身却不免内心抑郁的成熟稳重的大人？你是不是对你的孩子有“基于爱与保护的控制欲”？敢不敢做一个“心有猛虎，细嗅蔷薇”的成年人？
包宝宝变奏。主讲东亚父母对子女强烈的控制欲，正值青春期叛逆的孩子如何摆脱束缚追寻自我，套用了下东方奇幻元素的壳加以展现。祖孙三代齐心作战那段看得还是挺有感触的，母系女权议题永不过时。但整体感觉就是没啥新意，流水模板套固定公式（隔阂→叛逆→和解→接纳），自皮克斯被收购后作品的想象力表达与创意更迭大打折扣。
和小包子一样不伦不类，充满了老掉牙的刻板印象。
有很多可供联想的细节，比如即使远渡重洋，血脉内传承的、需要供奉的、敏感的、某种颜色的基因依然挥之不去，只能小心翼翼，避而不谈，视而不见——当然你也可以不这么看，但不管从哪个角度，这些东西都是一体的。
和解等于无解，到底是子女辜负父母的期待还是父母对子女有不切实际的期待。。。这片的歌怎么那么烂，随便挑首KPOP都比这强
完全能理解为什么不能被引进了，zz上可延展的解读空间太多了，比如仪式时候的红发和黑发，考虑到导演的背景不奇怪。足够尊重自我的感受，就就存在冒犯的可能。其实有点浅，但不去多想就看得很欢乐，三星加一星。
包宝宝的大型升级，主题不新鲜了，故事倒是很可爱，青春期逆反和尊重传统之间的摇摆抓得很准，母亲形象过分夸张了。还cue了02年的病毒
东亚亲子战争的具象化惨烈化表达。这种传统逻辑最荒唐的地方就是，家长们将压抑与克制视为美德，可是在让子女学习压抑与克制的过程中，他们却一点也不懂得压抑与克制自己。于是就像片中喻示的那样，孩子心中的小兽要靠家长化身巨兽来制服，这根本无关美德与教育，这只是一场权力的恶斗。
你别说这套还挺受用，算是比较好的传达东方理念。
期待过高了，反而不惊艳
各种设定真的好真实，简直就是在讲我本人（开玩笑）… 正片竟然没有Bye Bye Bye真是让人失望😂 但是竟然有Bootylicious… 准备再看一遍粤语配音版🐼🧡
