The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 【3.0】观影体验其实还行，即便是架设了过于庞大的表达系统，影片也并没有给人一种虚张声势的高深状，施拉德没有刻意回避类型片观众的普遍需求。作为一个摄影的超验主义者，施拉德最大的问题是他的影像处于一种尴尬境地：无法通过影像识别作者，风格是集成化的。这种集成化体现在观众对本片的评价上，即是有人大谈布列松，而我觉得它是一部“双峰”综合征电影。
12.4 隐喻多样，节奏平缓。有点现代人自我救赎的意思。单调以及被训练好的生活和思考方式，不愿暴露的或野蛮或天真的过往，或黑色或金色的记忆。噩梦的反噬，无法释然的自我，可以救赎和解脱的那个借口（需要牺牲，但不愿牺牲）不回来到，等或是不等？弃子之时。
本姑娘觉得很好看，真的需要一些无脑爱情喜剧活下去……喜欢男暗恋，男的对待感情认真，还叫女主shortcake，哪里讨厌女主了哈哈哈哈也只有女主这种一点就爆炸的小可爱才会这样觉得。dream一下。。。
虽说各种人设情节走向都是能想到的设定，不过整体看下来还是比较轻松有意思的小甜片的，适合拿来放松身心

本来想学习一下欢喜冤家这类是怎么解决俩人关系破冰这个问题的，结果第一幕还没结束俩人就在电梯里亲上了，原来是靠性欲解决的。。。
前半部分比后半好。服装摄影都很像样，有些台词也蛮有意思，属于质量不错的爱情轻喜剧。女主角很漂亮，男主没啥气质扣一分😏
一再地反高潮、去繁琐。却比第一归正会有了更多的运动，那就是不断推进。摄影机穿梭于牌桌喧嚣、人间地狱、灯火阑珊，抵达奥斯卡深邃的眼底。USA那几位哥真的承包所有笑点。（电话那头差点认成是Carey Mulligan...
腔调挺足的，调性一点点邪性，一点点古典，当然布列松啥的我我我还get不了。关键问题是这个故事我看不懂，是反战？反漂亮国？救赎？那这些和算牌和赌博又有啥关系？就男主一张冷脸西装革履的坐在赌桌前去拯救一个乱七八糟的小屁孩，我莫民的觉得这是bl场景~~~救命

影像风格和故事设计都很施拉德，一颗荒芜的心如何拯救另一颗濒死的心，监狱广角设计有意思，其他则寥寥。
还是有迷人气质的部分 置景和布光 至于几次 William Tell 的脸与镜头的双向运动关系给出表演和内心的空间做得刻意了点 镜头绕向星点彩灯空中盘旋 360° 再回来就牵手吧 2333 有些傻气的真心感 最后一幕不提致敬 倒也算呼应了台词里的指尖末梢兴奋颤抖 倒是隐线寥寥几笔 作为人物的背景板 p.s. bass 手 Robert 的 OST 做得妙
