The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 两个男主之间 太有感觉的，那一根一起抽的烟，闹翻后几年不见依旧觉得你会选择帮助我。电影该有的紧张和氛围我觉得都很到位，故事很流畅很舒服
你看到草扎小人的不幸，你以为自己可以置身度外；你被抓住并被解剖，你以为自己只是倒霉，但其实你自始至终都是生产链上的一环。
2.片尾的那个矮子怪人通过望远镜看到的是蘑菇云，也许这象征了最能够异化人类的也许就是人类自身的行为。

看不懂，但我大受震撼。不过我看到了稀疏的中国味。
虽然血腥暴力肮脏缺乏主线，但想象力太丰富了。
张伯伦牺牲了自己的名声，却让全世界看清了希特勒的真面目，并且为英国和盟军备战准备了时间，最终打败纳粹……这简直是「一盘好大的棋」。
突然词穷了！能想到词汇的只有两个！阴间！噩梦 ！没读过几年书的我只能用一句话来形容！真是小母牛敲门--牛逼到家了！
首先画面材质光影表现是一绝 全篇基调是阴暗癫狂的，从各种细节能看出是对人类造成的疯狂社会终点的隐喻 很多事情都是毫无意义的过程，在其中诞生，挣扎再毁灭，让这一切开始又放任其堕落腐烂的神是不是疯了
没有一句台词，层出不穷的怪物，充斥着黑暗血腥场面，奈何我就是不太感冒。

太精致的定格动画，每一帧都很用心，就是画面是真的是掉san，而且情节的确非常非常的晦涩。
道具做到极致了了，最后的音乐就是小孩子喜欢自己的玩具的心情

筹备了三十多年做出的定格动画，虽然不解其深意，但我大为震撼，频频作呕。
