The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. #Netflix# 3.5分。小三十焦虑，那种穷困又自恋的不会再出现一次的危机；这种感觉和表演、节奏是匹配的，但一切也就太“音乐剧”了（就目前没有音乐剧真正走进心里，一直不知道哪里出问题）。不过一大收获是对《吉屋出租》（一直冥冥很喜欢，当然中文版真的非常难看）从语气到内容似乎更明白了一点。
到后期热泪盈眶，I have no time. I already 29.
非常无趣，只剩导演的一腔热情。加菲演技有点过誉，他适合演自带圣光的角色，某些时刻很动人，但没有辨识度，和其他形象没什么区别(如《血战钢锯岭》)。歌不好听，因为Larson的那首Come to Your Senses勉强给及格分吧。
没有必须坚持的梦想或信仰
本来不太喜欢的。后来还是看哭了。八岁认识的小伙伴才会在大吵一架之后第二天还会出现。我怎么会不在你最重要的场合。所以打动程度远远超过那段游泳池里写出的歌曲。看得懂重要性但情绪铺垫还是俗套且单薄了。关于不停的写下一部。也还好他有才华有运气。但是总觉得也有英年早逝的成分。有时候真觉得冥冥之中自有天意。顺便提一句，好久不见把加菲拍的太奇怪了吧。
其实像是这种传记片看完之后我的第一反应都会是有一些无聊，因为当你不了解人物原型还要当故事片看的时候就会显得非常容易乏味，尤其是作为一部音乐电影其实歌曲也就那样，不得不说略有一些失望
come to your senses的后劲太大了，电影看完后一直记着这首歌。还有，要去看Rent！
讲述可以说改变现代音乐剧形式的天才剧作家乔纳森拉森的人物传记片，他却也没能逃脱早逝的命运。
音乐满分 半传记形式满分

这是一部让人心潮澎湃的电影！是一封写给音乐剧的情书！故事以闪回、以现实与音乐剧巧妙结合的方式推进，聚焦百老汇传奇剧作家乔拉森·拉尔森30岁前后的创作焦虑与人生困境，展现了他实现音乐梦想的无比执着和赤诚。Tick，Tick，Boom! 贯穿全片滴答作响的时针，营造了时光流逝男主年届三十一事无成的焦虑和压力，烘托了气氛。
如果你不了解吉屋出租以及背后的作者你就无法共鸣，去了解一下百老汇的传奇人物和作品吧，这个还是有点小众了。但个人观感还是很好的，我还是喜欢早午餐那一曲，太炫了。

对音乐剧也谈不上兴趣
对于歌舞片来说，歌好听，就成功80%了，加上剧情不错，人生短暂，为梦而拼
虽然讲的是逐梦演艺圈的故事，但融入了奔三焦虑话题，所以也可以跟普通观众建立联系。LMM自己的音乐剧被别人导演舞美做得华丽，自己导演别人的故事却能做到不追求浮华、选择最适合故事的表现形式。Andrew Garfield演得很好，希望明年奥斯卡能拿个提名。

好久没看这么纯粹的歌舞片了。哭了。。加菲太有才华了，LMM也完全不像一个新手电影导演
this is the real life太难了，但坚持所爱本身就是意义
唱给女友的那段击中了泪点，推荐给了做音乐编剧和音乐人朋友，身边也不乏这样有趣又有才华的灵魂，都值得好好珍惜，现实世界里因为这些看似不太现实的人的存在才会丰富和精彩。
