In 1865, during the siege of Richmond, Virginia, the union soldiers POW Captain Harding, Neb and Herbert escape in a balloon during a storm with two confederate prisoners, Sergeant Pencroft and the journalist Spilett. The uncontrollable wind takes the balloon to a mysterious island in the South Pacific in the area of New Zealand. Captain Harding self-proclaims the leader of the group and they look for food; sooner they discover that they are stranded in an island. Further, they are attacked by a giant crab that becomes their first meal. Along the days, they build a shelter and finds that the island is inhabited by giant animals. A couple of days later, they find two castaways on the beach, the aristocratic Lady Mary Fairchild and her sexy niece Elena. Later they find a trunk with weapons and instruments like sextant and shelter with a journal of a man left alone in the island by pirates. When the pirate vessel arrives in the island, they are helped by Captain Nemo of the Nautilus, a submarine that had supposedly sunk in the coast of Mexico eight years ago. 最大的收获是让我现场下单《幻灭》特装书。听上去很熟悉的故事模版：一个家世存疑的年轻人离开家乡来到喧嚣华丽的巴黎，凭借着自己的英俊和才智崭露头角过了一段挥金如土的如梦生活———直到一切幻灭，尘归尘土归土，于是他踏上回家的路，stop hoping and begin living。Lucien与他的小报记者朋友们不同的是他身份的双重性，他是发自内心的相信自己拥有高贵的血统和远大的理想，是男爵夫人口中的one of us，但他卑微的父系出生注定了他永远不可能被高傲的上流社会所接受：那是一个贵族们感到自己的权威被新贵们挑战的时代，幻灭的不仅是Lucien对美的追求，也是巴黎贵族们的万代千秋。纸醉金迷的生活和不可一世的优雅已经渐近尾声，他们的成功不过是保王党最后的回光返照：醒不过来的其实是这个时代。
选择本片不是因为豆瓣7分➕，也不是因为获得凯撒奖，更不是因为本杰明瓦赞这位号称法国最佳新人，主要是因为看到评论说本片完全忠于原著，而巴尔扎克一直是本人比较欣赏的作家之一，他刻薄的语言，尖锐的视角，大胆辛辣的讽刺都是我喜欢的类型，看完果然名副其实，对于法国当时保皇派和自由派的争夺也有了更进一步的了解，好片，值得推荐！
興衰史的敘事感很流暢 文字的書寫以及編輯室猴子鴨子的混亂感很中我的命門了 一方面也是我欽羨的世界 瘋狂恣意隨性 掌握筆桿的人有話語權(想當一次惡勢力XD)but希望大家真的 一個半小時能講完的話不要拖拖拉拉講不完帶壞節奏

Every soul is for sale, for a price. 是巴尔扎克笔下的浮士德故事，是十九世纪的巴黎众生相，也是我们所在的世界。光论电影本身算不上佳作，但有巴尔扎克原著的功力在，人物塑造都不成问题，旁白有些多余（虽然是多兰念的）。但今天再看这个故事真真感到荒诞又现实，从新闻媒体诞生之日以来，它的角色就从未改变过……
一则小镇青年迎合上流、却终不得入的寓言。关系的本质是交换，不要自己加戏。
表演一般，旁白来凑，表演最好的可能是报社那只猴子🐵，看到几百年前巴黎的媒体社会政治乱象挺有意思。德不配才自然不配财，终究镜花水月一场空。

这让我突然又想起了《燃烧女子的肖像》来，二者都用到了维瓦尔第的四季小提琴协奏曲，区别在于烧女图是将全片的情绪积压在最后来以配乐的方式而爆发出来，但幻灭又不那么强烈，他更多的是以小提琴协奏曲的激烈情绪表达主角处境的剧烈震动，再然后带给观众较为饱满的情绪表达。两者用法完全不同，但这并不影响他们各自在配乐上的优秀。
改编自同名的著名长篇小说，十分值得一看。四星。
老狗的故事真是迷人，故事老套但还是挺好看的。
